RULES FOR RIDING

After picking up a spanking new bike from Cycleogical, the first thing you'll want to do is go for a ride so everyone can see how cool you look. Before you hit the road, though, we recommend you read the following ride rules.

You should also be familiar with the Queensland Road Rules as they affect cyclists. As a legitimate road user, you have the same rights and responsibilities as other vehicles. There are also specific rules that apply only to cyclists.

  1. Your safety and the safety of others come first at all times
    • Give way to anything and everything (even if you have right of way, but will be putting yourself at risk).
    • Make sure you have your front and rear lights on if it is dark.
    • Wear glasses to protect your eyes.
    • Be conscious of and concerned for the safety of your fellow cyclists.
    • AEROBARS: They are only to be used during the fast section on "The Sunday ride" only if you are on the very front leading the pace line, otherwise you must have your hands on the handlebars /hoods/ drops etc and or cowhorns at all times.
    • Be careful to hold your line at all times. Travel in a straight line where possible follow the wheel in front of you.
    • Avoid erratic and dangerous riding.
    • Signal properly when turning.
    • Signal to cyclists following you any potholes, open car doors, pedestrians or other hazards in your path.
    • Never ride more than two abreast on any road at any time. Fall into single file on single lane roads if cars are trying to pass and on bike paths where pedestrians are walking, or cyclists are riding in the opposite direction.
    • Be careful about riding too close to the kerb.
    • Ride within your capabilities.
    • If you are unsure about anything, ask a Cycleogical staff member or another cyclist.
    • Check your bike and ensure it is roadworthy before you start a ride. If your bike needs attention, fix it straight away.
    • Wear an ASA approved helmet at all times while riding.

      Cycleogical riders

  2. Obey all road rules and other laws.
  3. Be courteous to other users of the road (drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other cyclists).
  4. Know where you're going and make sure others in the group know where you're going. Know who you're riding with, including the number in the group, and how quickly they intend to ride. Don't ride unless you're sure you'll hold on.
  5. Know who's responsible for the ride and follow their instructions.
  6. If you're an experienced rider make sure you check with people who are being dropped that they're OK to get home alone.
  7. Always carry the tools necessary for roadside repairs.
    • Carry enough water and food for the ride.
    • Carry enough cash for an emergency.
    • Carry a mobile phone if you have one.

There are inherent risks in cycling. By cycling with the Cycleogical Cycling Club and/or the shop you agree that you're cycling at your own risk and will be entirely responsible for your own safety. You also agree that you will not hold the Club or its management committee, or the shop, its proprietor or staff in any way liable for any injury or loss suffered by you.
